COSine 2025 Status Report #2

COSine 2025 will be January 24-26, 2025 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Colorado Springs.

Amazingly, COSine is only about 5 months away—soon enough that we’ve started waking up the team from cryosleep (we had to do it anyway—the manager of our storage locker started complaining about the power bills).

The first big news is that Dr. Ka Chun Yu has agreed to be our Science Guest of Honor! Ka Chun is the curator of space science at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where he focuses on visualizations of astronomical datasets in immersive and non-immersive settings. We are hoping that means he’s bringing a portable holodeck to the con, but even if not, he is a really interesting speaker.

Ka Chun joins our other guests:

  • Lawrence Watt-Evans (Guest of Honor). He is a Hugo-winning author, best known for his Ethshar series, starting with The Misenchanted Sword, but he is also a sci-fi and horror author, and has been the president of the Horror Writers Association and the Eastern Regional Director of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association.
  • Theresa Mather (Artist GoH). She is an incredible artist who paints on canvas, feathers, and stone. She describes herself as a cryptopictographer – a painter of things that don’t exist. Oh, and she also restores carousels!

We are also very happy that Connie Willis (SFWA Grand Master) and Courtney “Dr. Science” Willis have agreed to come back as special guests!

You can register online for the con here. If you think you might have already registered, you can use our registration lookup tool to check. It is really helpful to us if you register earlier, and it also guarantees a lower rate and a snazzy laminated badge with your name on it!

Hotel

The second bit of news is that the hotel registration link is finally up and working and the hotel has kept the $119 rate for a suite with breakfast and other stuff included!

However, apparently the room registration process was a little too simple last year, so they’ve added some wrinkles. Via the link you can only register for a King Suite. If you want a double-queen suite or an accessible room, you need to book the King Suite, then contact the hotel to change it! Think of it as a reverse escape-room, where you have to solve puzzles in order to get into the room. For details, check out the hotel page on our site.

COSiners in the World

Some of us will be going to Bubonicon in Albuquerque next weekend (August 23-25) and we will also have a community table at MileHiCon (October 25-27). Consider this either an invitation to come say hi or a warning to hide—depending on your own personal predilections.

Contacting Us

Feel free to ping us if you have any questions, suggestions for panels, interest in the dealer room/art show/etc. It will make a nice change from all the bots and Power Ranger agents (not even kidding on that one):

Looking forward to seeing you next year!
