This month’s book is Emergence by David Palmer. The first part was originally published in Analog in 1981, with a followup in 1983. These parts were combined in a novel published by Bantam in 1984, and the book was nominated for the Hugo Award in 1985, losing out to William Gibson’s Neuromancer. The style is a first-person narrative written in an abbreviated telegraphic style, based on Pitman shorthand. It is about an 11 year old girl who is one of the first of a new species of humanity — the next step in human evolution, and her survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
We will meet at our usual time and place, at 8pm at the home of Kent Bloom and Mary Morman at 1245 Allegheny Drive. Click the Directions tab for a map to their house. Cary offered to bring snacks for this month. Thanks!
